Charlotte Perriand

Architect and designer Charlotte Perriand was born in Paris in 1903. Having studied design at École de l'Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs between 1920 and 1925, Perriand started to manage her own design firm in 1927. From the late 1920s to the late 1930s, she worked with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, and the reputation of her works spanned far-away lands such as Tokyo and Indonesia.
Cassina inspired Perriand and she worked for the brand for long years. Her most well-known work is the steel chair series she designed in her first years with Corbusier and Jeanneret. Her highlight works include Salon d'Automne’deki Équipement d'Habitation in Paris, Le Corbusier’s new apartment on Rue Nungesser-et-Coli, and the League of Nations for the United Nations in Geneva.
There was a retrospective exhibition on Perriand at Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris in 1985. In 1998, there was also a presentation about her at the Design Museum in London, and a published autobiography titled “Vie de Création.”
