Designed in 1934 by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld and quickly recognized as a design icon, the Zig Zag chair is one of the first examples of the cantilevered solid wood chair, consisting of four straight pieces of wood joined in a rhythmic sequence to create a highly sophisticated look of instability.
The stylistic singularity of the object finds its ultimate expression in the colored version with an open-pore finish that enhances the grain of the wood. It was one of the first models reinterpreted by Cassina on the occasion of the launch of the I Maestri Collection in 1973.
