Perfect lighting is essential for the interior of your home, office. In addition to providing illumination, it creates a different mood, ambience and warmth.

For a harmonious look and feel, we recommend placing three types of lighting layers throughout your home: ambient, task and decorative. This will ensure that your home not only looks its best, but also functions on a practical level.

The following information can help guide you to make an informed decision about what is right for you and your field.

Ambient Lighting

One of the main reasons we shop for lighting is to fulfill a practical or functional need. Ambient lights replace natural light in our homes and usually come as pendant lamps that hang in the center of the room for even illumination.

There are countless lights to choose from and something for every style of your room. Choose a simple, contemporary pendant for a soft, warm glow. Depending on the size of your room and the pendant, they can look particularly striking when hung in clusters of three in a large or open-plan living space. Dining rooms, meanwhile, look great with a pendant hanging directly above the dining table.

For bedrooms, we propose a pendant necklace that offers a delicate sparkle, ideal for a cozy and peaceful environment. Some pendants can become showpieces and a focal point in the room, even when the light is off.

We stock a wide range of beautiful pendant lamps in many styles, sizes and colors.

Table Lamps

Desk lamps are used especially when you need additional or precise light for a specific task, such as working on a computer, writing or reading.

Table lamps are a common source of functional lighting and offer a direct and intense light. Those with movable arms mean you can direct the light exactly where it’s needed, while at the same time, if they have a canopy, it can protect from an overwhelming glare. Incidentally, dimmer switches are useful for optimal light level.

Kitchens or cooking areas are best illuminated with spot or wall lights, which offer a focused and uncomplicated light. They are fixed with hidden cables and can often be manually rotated to direct light in the preferred direction.

Bathroom Lighting

When it comes to choosing lighting for the bathroom, safety is essential. The lights are given an Ingress Protection (IP) rating, which measures how resistant the light is to both water and dust particles. Bathroom lights must be at least IP44, i.e. splash-proof. Once you know which IP rating you need, you can think about which style to choose.

Wall and spotlights are a great choice for the bathroom space as they are compact without hanging cables and therefore you don’t have to worry about them.

Remember: The main bathroom light must be switched on with a fabric pull cord or a light switch located outside the bathroom.

Outdoor Lighting

Outdoor lights can be simple, with subtle illumination or a striking focal point of your outdoor space. As with the bathroom area, you will need to make sure you consider security and IP ratings. Outdoor lights need to be at least IP44, which ensures they are protected against splashes of water and general wear and tear of the outdoors.

A wide variety of lights are available for your outdoor space, from simple wall lights to stylish path and post lights and decorative hanging lights.

Please note that when installing outdoor lighting, all cables must be protected and all metal parts grounded. Also, whenever possible, switches should be placed indoors.

Technical Details

Led bulbs

LED technology has improved significantly in the last few years, becoming cheaper with better coloring and higher energy efficiency.

Light Emitting Diodes use up to 90% less energy than traditional bulbs and are the most efficient bulb on the market, helping you lower your electricity bills. They give off a warm light and also have the longest lifespan of any bulb, typically lasting 15-30 years. What’s not love? Discover our full collection of LED bulbs here.

Please note Our lighting with integrated LED technology is manufactured to work only with a 220-240V voltage source. If you live in an area where the voltage supply differs from this EU standard, unfortunately the product will not work and we cannot provide integrated LED lighting for you. Please contact our team for more information.

Other bulb types

Traditional bulb types such as incandescent, CFL and Halogen have been phased out in the EU over the last few years due to their low energy efficiency. Their running costs are much higher than LED bulbs and their lifetime is much shorter.

Outdoor ratings

Ingress Protection ratings measure the degree of protection a light has against both particles and water. Generally speaking, the higher the IP rating, the more protected your light is. Lamps for use in the bathroom or outdoors must have a high IP rating for safe use. The IP rating is divided into two parts – the first digit relates to the ingress of particles and ranges from 0 (no protection) to 6 (dustproof). The second digit indicates the moisture input and ranges from 0 (no protection) to 8 (protection against complete submersion under pressure).
