Tobia Scarpa was born in Venice in 1935. He graduated from Istituto Universarios d’Architettura in Venice in 1969.
As an architect, he’s worked for both public and private customers including the Benetton Group for which he designed the Castette di Villorba industrial zone and production facilities. Even today, the Benetton facilities are regarded as an example of the perfection of aesthetics and functionality and one of the world’s most exciting works of industrial architecture.
The chair “Soriana” Tobia Scarpa designed with Afra Scarpa for the brand Cassina received Compasso d’Oro in 1970. The chair “925” from the same series is included in the permanent collection of MoMA in New York.
