Michael Anastassiades
A Cypriot designer based in London, Michael Anastassiades studied Civil Engineering at the Imperial College of Science and Technology and Medicine in London. Having received his master’s degree in Industrial Design at Royal College of Art, the designer opened his first studio in 1994. Positioning himself between design and fine arts, the designer’s works aim to trigger dialogue, interaction and participation.
Though his objects look minimal, useful and even “ordinary,” they also hold an unexpected energy. Museum of Modern Art in New York, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, FRAC Centre in Orléans, and MAK in Vienna are some of the museums that display Anastassiades’ works in their permanent collection. Moreover, he often partakes in temporary exhibitions of the world’s most prestigious museums. Having collaborated with world-renowned,
leading manufacturers such as Flos, Puiforcat, Lobmeyr, and Svenskt Tenn, the designer opened a studio in his own name in 2007 and started to design his own products such as furniture, lighting, jewelry, and desktop objects. The studio aims to achieve timeless quality, individuality and eclecticism in its designs.
