Vitra Campus which hosts some of the world’s prominent designers and Vitra Design Museum home to design and architecture exhibitions, design archives and an extensive furniture collection are all part of Vitra. Having studied architecture at the Art Academy in Ghent, Belgium, Maarten van Severen designed his first furniture in 1986 and, the next year, opened his workshop where he produced his own furniture designs in a semi-industrial way. The designer began to collaborate with Rem Koolhaas in 1990 and started to focus on interior architecture.
Maarten van Severen’s collaboration with Vitra began in 1996 and it became a turning point for the designer’s career. This enabled him to work with new materials and to promote his name to a wider audience. Until his death in 2005, Maarten van Severen created a series of mass-produced designs for Vitra
